For those whose health care providers have suggested purchasing a wrist blood pressure monitor for their home there are some things that need to be understood about them. There are some concerns that this type of device is not as accurate in providing readings. The advantages seem to be that the devices are smaller and easier to use for those you get the proper instructions. As well, since the size of a person’s wrist does not changes much based on weight these wrist monitors can be used for different people in a household without having to purchase other attachments.

One problem with getting a reading on a wrist monitor to keep track of a person’s blood pressure is that the monitor must be situated at the same height as the person who is having the reading taken. Otherwise it may prove to be inaccurate. This can be done by simply having the person lying down while doing the test. Researchers have spent significant time testing the wrist monitors and have been satisfied that their results are accurate if this method is used.

In comparison to the other types of blood pressure monitors that can be rented or bought the wrist device is lightweight, inexpensive and relatively easy to use. They come with a large display screen so that he numbers can be easily read. These devices on average cost around forty to fifty dollars but can go as high as a hundred dollars depending on what features you want with them. They are available from pharmacies, medical supply stores or online.

If your health care provider has suggested a device at home to keep track of your blood pressure that means that it is high enough that the physician is very worried about your levels. Checking daily means a chance of avoiding a heart attack or stroke because of rising levels that might be missed by less frequent monitoring at a doctor’s office. A wrist blood pressure monitor could save your life.
